About the ‘The sun always shines in San Remo, regardless of authority’ series

‘The sun always shines in San Remo, regardless of authority” relates to the defiance of provincial civic planning.  Poor wisdom (lack of consideration) and insidious action in forcing my partner and I to construct a 20 car park on our land which was designed for a contemporary gallery, studio and sculpture garden.

The studio and sculpture garden had to be sacrificed to make room for the car park which had a monumental effect on my ability to run my gallery, work, be part of the community and promote new contemporary art.

‘The sun always shines in San Remo, regardless of authority series” #133 – Aluminium leaf, rust, acrylic & reflective hologram on paper – 1165mm x 570mm

No. 133 – Visual Literation

The is rust-impregnated paper with the ambiguity of decay, entropy of the sea floor – ever changing.

Yellow, as the representation of light, is a harsh non-compromising statement, where the light is shafted by a black monotone seascape where colour appears and disappears (reflective hologram).

The dark seascape represents my emotional state and the ambiguity of visual attractiveness, where the seascape is divided by reflective hologram which the viewer can see through from certain points of view and other times shows intense colour, implying oscillating states of emotion.

The yellow slash is placed above my symbol, which is also the gallery brand – where a square contains a circle and dot – symbol of creativity.  Within the circle is contained a snake which has the physicality of changing its skin, implying the the pursuance of freshness and potency.

At the top of the paining is silver texture, turbulent water, the struggle to find form and reason – in the end it washes away – fluid emancipation
